- Add yoghurt to the dog’s food and she/he is getting adequate calcium: Canines are in need of high levels of calcium and this may not come entirely from yoghurt. You need to calculate and assess the calcium requirements of your dog carefully and supplement it artificially (also by adding powdered eggshells) unless your dog gets a diet of raw bones.
- I have a balanced diet and I can do the same thing for my dog: This is something that many people assume and it is not correct. The nutritional requirements for human beings is really different from that of dogs. You need to provide about 30% calories from fat, 30% calories and the rest from complex carbohydrates like brown rice.
- My dog is passing loose stool, limiting fiber intake will rectify that: Fibers are important in canine diets and the type you feed also matters. If you feel the need then switch to blander meals or reduce the quantity of food for a couple of days by about 30%. In case the problem still persists consult the vet.
