15 Fishes which should be on your list to Avoid
- Atlantic salmon (including farmed and wild-caught): First of all it is illegal to catch Atlantic Salmon due to lower fish stocks and this partly due to salmon farming. Salmon farming causes pollution as the fish in huge numbers are packed into pens which gives rise to parasites and diseases. This means the use of pesticides and antibiotics are required. Often the fish in captivity escape and struggle with native fish for survival and cause the stocks to decline. Instead opt out for Wild Alaskan Salmon.
Imported king crab: This comes from Russia where the rules and limits for harvesting fish are not enforced properly. Plus there is a confusion about what exactly is king crab and often mislabeled. Instead go for the ones that is from Alaska and not from elsewhere.
- Shark: These fish that are considered the predators of the ocean are very high in mercury that is not good for human beings as well as the ecosystem within the sea. Plus the food that sharks tend to have like jellyfish and cownose rays are increasing in numbers due to decline in shark numbers and in turn rays are depleting the other fish stocks. The way shark fin is made is also the cruelest things to happen giving you another reason to avoid eating them. Instead have Atlantic Mackerel and Pacific Halibut
