15 Fishes which should be on your list to Avoid
Fish is considered among the healthiest food to be eaten and this is true. Fish does have a lot of nutritional value as well as most fishes having less of the harmful fats making it a really healthy thing to eat.
But today our seas and oceans are running out of stock in terms of wild fish and add to this the pollution coming from industries making the choice among fishes difficult to make in terms of what is good and what is not.
Here is a list of fish that should be on your list to avoid:
- Catfish that is imported: This is to be avoided as most of the catfish that is imported, originates from Vietnam, where they use antibiotics that have been banned in the USA. Plus the two types of Catfish that come from here named Basa and Swai are not even considered Catfish technically so thereby are not inspected as per the standards required. Instead of the imported catfish stick to the ones that are domestically found.
- Caviar: Caviar comes from sturgeon caught in the wild and beluga both of which are overfished. Plus the species also faces danger from building of dams that causes the water in which they live to be polluted. Plus the fish that are used to make caviar take a long time to rebound. Instead try to go for American Lake Sturgeon fish eggs or Shovelnose Sturgeon caviar from the Mississippi River.
- Atlantic cod: Due to the poor management of National Marine Fisheries service and a status of low stock this species is just a tad above endangered species. Instead if you happen to love fish and chips then you could go with Pacific Cod which is better.
