Breast Cancer in Teenage Girls and Young Women: Explained
What is recommended way to screen younger women for breast cancer?
One of the best ways to do it is by self examination. Doctors should guide women and tell them how to do it and also advise them on how beneficial it is and the limitations of doing this. You need to get a breast examination at least once in 3 years from a healthcare professional starting at age 20. After 40 you should have screening mammograms. And after 50 once in two years they should have a screening mammogram. You need to discuss this with your doctor and schedule it accordingly.
How is the cancer of the breast treated in women who are younger?
The treatment will depend on the extent of the disease regardless of age and also the woman’s general health among other factors. It could include surgery in the form of lumpectomy (removal of lump) or mastectomy (removal of breast). With Lumpectomy the treatment follows radiation and chemotherapy with hormone therapy (depending on circumstances) to ensure the recurrence is prevented. The disease also leaves behind problems with sexuality, fertility and pregnancy in younger women.
